Welcome

My name is Andrew Davis and I am a programmer who specializes in game development and graphics coding. I graduated in April 2020 with a BS in Computer Science from the University of Michigan - Flint, graduating from the University's Honors program and with High Honors.

I started game development with XNA Game Studio back in 2008. Back when I started I was fascinated with how the systems behind games worked, almost more than I was interested in the final product itself. Over the years, that transformed in wanting to understand how the systems that make up games work together and how game engines and their renderers function. When I started to look at what I would pursue for college it was simple, I wanted to pursue game development. Due to many factors I ended up pursuing a degree in computer science at the University of Michigan - Flint. Here I was placed in the honors program and strived to learn as much as I could relating to computers and always attempting to side towards game development.

Due to this, I started a game design club at the university and gathered like minded individuals to talk, discuss and share what we learned. This became incredibly useful when with the help of the university I was able to attend the Game Developer's Conference in 2017. I came back and was able to share my experiences with the club, which in turn led to returning the following years but with groups of club mates. When not discussing GDC we spent our time trying to hone our critical eye and learn what we could about how games are made and when we could produce games ourselves to varying degrees of success. After a short time, we were even invited by the Computer Science to represent them at one of the school's open houses for prospective students. They liked what we had done so much that we were invited every after until I graduated. The Game Design club allowed me to meet many people I am glad to have a connection with and broaden my horizons with respect to game development.

Since graduating, I have been working on my personal projects, the biggest of which is a homegrown game engine, The Dragonbone Engine, which I am building from scratch in C#. This project has been an interesting one which I have worked on for many year in one form or another, even if the current iteration is rather new. Feel Free to check it out here if you are interested.
